Seems totally incoherent to say "Oh there was a breach. So we're shutting it down. Except for enterprise users!" Because what enterprise user wouldn't want a social platform that was compromised? And, if you can't even get this right, what does that say about the Once and Future Internet of Things?
Google is just using the leak as an excuse, the fact is that they can't compete with FB and are getting nothing out of G+ that they don't already get with their other services. So all they do is lose money on running all the servers and keeping maintenance. In 10 months they shut down most of the servers only leaving enough on to serve as a network for large corporate customers. Way more cost effective for them. They are after all a corporation out to make money
Whether you believe it or not G+ IS shutting down. That's the official thing. In other words anything contradictory you've heard is fake news. Don't get me wrong, I also don't want G+ to go and if possible I'd buy Google and run it as my own company and keep G+ alive but sadly I don't have that much money.
If an Autist like me can deal with being forced to learn yet another system of social interaction inspite of situations like this driving me into bouts of OCD (the actual mind toturing kind not the figurativly "I'm so OCD" kind). Then you neurotypical folks can put on your bigboy pants and deal with it too.
Linda Tewes google could affort a hundred G+ like money sinks and would if what they got out of it was something they didn't get form elsewhere. But G+ brings them nothing they don't already get from other services.
Linda Tewes you don't need to pass calc one to know that one of the biggest businesses isn't in any danger of going broke over a few server farms. There just is more things they can do with that processing power than run a redundant service.
James Blakemore But it is, Google is taking it behind the proverbial woodshed because Google+ was a bad dog who ate the birthday cake and apparently is going to be put out of its misery without so much as question or comment from the company in question.

I heard the network isn’t shutting down but that the admins are just fixing issues.

ReplyDeleteBrettyBoy200 I have been on Google+ for years and met great people.
ReplyDeleteBrettyBoy200 It’s shutting down the free platform known as G+.
ReplyDeleteSame.
ReplyDeleteLinda Tewes, I will believe that when it happens.

ReplyDeleteLike I said, I will believe it when it happens.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter it's already on the way. Google have announced it who are we to be in denial?
ReplyDeleteDon't grieve for a corporate money-making machine which has coldly dumped us because we are worthless.
ReplyDeleteI see.

Nethar6 Even If they aren’t out to make a profit, they are definitely NOT out to go broke.

ReplyDeleteNethar6 Are you Alphabet’s accountant? If not you’re just speculating.

ReplyDeleteNethar6 Never say never.
