in the future you'll control social media.. that future is now? "..The Federation refers to a global social network composed of nodes that talk to each other..

I am a very active Mastodon user of anyone has any questions
ReplyDeleteLachlan Brown what do you think of this criticism of mastodon? have you had any experience like this? do you run your own node? ..thanks for adding the comment... "..Mastodon was always known to be tough on Nazis; it was known that they were strict on free speech only to a degree. After the treatment that I received yesterday, however, I can no longer recommend Mastodon. It may be Free software, but it’s very weak on free speech..": schestowitz.com - » Blog Archive » Mastodon is Free Software, But It Does Not Respect Free Speech (Updated)
ReplyDeleteMark Phelan I am a bit suspicious of it to be honest. For an active user they don't seem to understand how it works at all? There are various instances. This person was on Mastodon.technology . Mastodon doesn't ban you: your specific instance does. So they might have gotten kicked off of Mastodon.technology , but if they are innocent as they say they should have no trouble making an account on any one of the dozens of other instances there are. (If you are causing problems and your admin won't do something about it, other admins can block your posts from reaching their instances, unless a user specifically chooses to follow you).
ReplyDeleteAs for a shadowban, I've never heard of those on Mastodon?there are often issues where your posts will take a long time to move between instances particularly if the network is very busy, but I've never heard of one where you will still be on the network but your posts won't show up to your followers.
one of the advantages I'd say is instead of it being a massive conglomeration like Google Plus it's more like a bunch of small communities where each administrator is in charge of a few members to a few hundred members. So I've met my instant administrator at a party for example, so if they suddenly start making weird decisions I can actually talk to them as a person and say what the hell.
What strikes me as really weird about this post is that they apparently don't know how the system works at all this by claiming to be a very heavy user. a casual user who logs in a post every so often can easily mess this sort of stuff, but I've never heard of a heavy user who's never taken the time to read a guide or seen a message explaining the difference is between different instances.
