Here is a list of alternatives to G+ due to the shutdown in 10 months
The list goes from best to worst, vote on which one you like the best and the screenshots goes according to the list such as discord would be the first screenshot you should see for an example.

1. Discord - discordapp.com

Pros:
- Has categories for an example you have a category called politics then click on the arrow to right of the politics category then it show whats called channels which you can post stuff in.

- Has both regular posting channels then has channels for voice only.
Voice channels can have a limit on how many people can talk on the channel or no limit depending on what you want.

-Categories along with channels can be locked and the owner can give permissions to people to access private categories/channels.

- Ability to control permissions of members what they can and can't do on any category/channel

- Custom emojis for everyone, to make a custom emoji upload a picture/gif to your server(community) in server(community) settings.

-Supports gifs which means you can have your custom emoji(s) moving which is cool.

- Has html5 support along with support for webhooks.

- Has bots you can install onto your server(community) to have automation such as automatically uploading news articles to the news channel, have a bot that you can request a song from that you can play, have a bot automatically remove members for saying certain words if you are offended easily lol, have a bot answer questions by it searching for answers such as a definition then answering, a bot for promoting members to different roles if you want and much more.

There's hundreds of thousands of bots which you can install on your server(community),
discord has a site dedicated to showcasing all bots.

- Has roles you can make, each role you make you adjust the permissions of what a member with said role can do.

- You can set an expiration date on invite links or have never expire.

- A Private messages inbox

Cons:
- no search bar to find discord servers(communities) due to being invite only.
Invites are links you give to people in order to join your server(community).
In order for your discord server to found you must make a discord page/ any website for your discord server(community) and add your invite link(make it never expire) then others just need to click join.

I recommend sticking with using the discord official site or just use discordservers.com
You can search for discord servers on google or just use discordservers.com

Comments on it, the only thing that isn't similar to google + communites is that the layout is different.

2. Reddit - https://www.reddit.com

Pros:

- Has subreddits similar to google + communites layout (If you want the layout to look like google + version of the community change the view from list to cards the very left option)

- Has different view points from cards where you have card shaped posts side by side then you have a list view, etc.

- Has a description page you can add and no worries on space for the description.

- Has categories

- Clean and nice layout

Cons:

1. To create a subreddit (google + name would be community)
your account must be 30 days old which in my opinion is ridiculous.

3. Gab https://www.gab.ai

Pros:

- Has groups(communities)

- Has a place for videos, a channel

- You can go live on videos

- Nice and clean design

- Can put your group under a certain category which is cool

- Has news built-in on top of your home feed

- Has a private messages inbox

- Can create a group chat on the messages inbox

- In settings theres a feature to filter words, so if you filter the word hi for an example any posts with the text hi would be hidden.

- Can delete all of your posts in a certain time line for an example past 24 hours.

- Apps for Gab

- Can subscribe to channels and help support them by giving money

- Supports gifs

- Can create a topic where everyone can see it

- Can create a group where everyone can see it

Cons:

- You must have gab pro to make groups(communities) which in my opinion is ridiculous

- To go live you must have gab pro

4. Minds - https://www.minds.com
Pros:

- Communities called groups similar but instead of plus button you just type in the box and when your ready to post click on send post.

- Has a place you can post videos directly to the public which is cool and theres a top and recent video tab for the public videos.

- You have channels which are basically collections like on google +

- Has a public image area where you can posts pictures directly to the public and has a top and recent image tab for the public images.

- Has a public place to publish blogs to posts directly to the public and has a top tab and recent tab for public blogs.

- Showcases the top hashtags to the left

- Can boost posts
- Can donate ether
- Can share to both facebook, and twitter at the same time while posting
- Can boost others posts,etc
- Can enable spam filter/ disable

Cons:
- No categories in the groups(communities)

5. MeWe - https://www.mewe.com

Pros:
- communities layout similar just like google + but called groups
- Able to control members permissions
- Able to enable/disable the spam filter which can be helpful
- A group chat(community group chat)
- Has online storage with 8 gb free

Cons:
- No categories for groups(communities)

You can have a collection like google + you have to make a group then make it where members can't post but only give permissions like read, comment, like, share, etc.

6. Praschnig https://f.praschnig.com
Pros:
- Has a wall (community)

- Can setup an email address
- Can mute threads
- Can setup weather forecast on your page which is cool
- Has a filter you can add a list of words in so for an example you could filter starbucks and anyone who posted a post with starbucks you wouldn't be able to see.
- Adjust how many characters till it starts cutting posts
- Generate a widget code that you can use to make widgets on android for an example
- Can install stuff such as word press on it which is cool ( because you could adjust the layout to your liking)

- Parent accounts for kids accounts

- Can add apps, (need key, icon url, etc)

- Export your profile data

- Import your profile data ( handy for moving from one account to another)

- You can make multiple profiles on your account ( In my opinion this a bad idea because the site could end up with bots easily)

- Can use keywords on your profile to help others find your page

- Have the ability to dislike posts along with favorite posts

- Can poke people like Facebook

- Has a place for notes

Cons :

- To join someone's wall(group/community) when requesting you must follow them

- No categories for walls(groups/communities)

- To make communities with different backgrounds you have to make another profile within your account, not sure how to explain it. Basically you have your account and on your account you can create profiles.

To check out the last one you will need to go to my blog because I can only put up to 5 different sites in the poll.

Comments

  1. Just found out that mewe only has 8gb of storage to post to which means posting more than 8gb will result in needing to delete stuff.

  2. More MeWe cons

Con: The app drains the battery quickly and the site doesn't seem to work properly on mobile

Con: You can't rejoin a community after you leave it

  3. For text posts, 8GB might as well be unlimited. The point of MeWe though is that it doesn't fund itself through advertising, so limiting things like this and allowing for people to pay for extra storage makes sense. I think I prefer it as a model.

  4. Thanks for the info. I am not voting for any of the above because although some have comms, the comms have no categories. I'm looking for suitable sites to migrate G+ communities. Having categories within the comms are very helpful, and it would be hard to have to do without them. I hope Mr MeWe will get categories in the comms in the near future. Waiting . . .

  5. If you want communities with categories along with similar layout to g+ use reddit.
If you want communities with categories and don't care about the layout but have advanced features like automatic posting news, amber alerts, and storm warnings being posted use discord. Martha Magenta
