  1. MeWe is gaining traction, I have an Android community there that has gotten over 100 new members in like 2 days.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Minds. Maybe Steemit or one of it's clones.

42% Other 😂 someone made the wrong list.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Pluspora just hit over 5,000 refugees from G+.

    ReplyDelete
  4. cobalt please does that have an app?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Martin Krischik The list is limited to 5 options. To not mention the bigger ones makes no sense. I included MeWe because it’s very near to Google+ and will get something like collections in the near future.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Many of us on the big communities are over there checking out MeWe.

    ReplyDelete
  7. cobalt please Is there any proof for this number?

    ReplyDelete
  8. The only reason I use G+ is for the communities and the discussions on them. I am also on FB for family and a few close friends.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Pam Mitchell MeWe has groups = communities on G+.

    ReplyDelete
  10. What's the rush? None are a drop-in replacement for G+ today. None of them have the infrastructure to absorb all the G+ refugees in one gulp. Even the famously decentralized Diaspora is going to need dozens, if not hundreds, of new nodes/pods/whatever. All are going to need G+ refugees to agitate for missing features.

Join them all, a few, one, or none and watch what happens to each in the coming months/years.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Kanati Siqua'Uyetsga we have to start looking at other options now, if we wait too long then Google plus will be shut down and we won't talk to any of our friends here ever again.

Sites like MeWe aren't there yet, but have the potential to be good alternaatives, they are mostly missing the users.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Kanati Siqua'Uyetsga Nobody talked about a rush. A poll just reflects feelings/decisions and so it’s interesting to see what people vote for and what they write in comments. That’s all.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Jason Wiltjer there is no official app but the one that I and others I know use is called "Diaspora Native WebApp available in the Google Play store. It works alright. No push notifications though, only email notifs.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Thomas Unterstenhoefer yes. It was posted by the owners in the stats report yesterday. This is an automated reporting for all the diaspora and Federation pods. Now there is interest in going to 10k and seeing if other developers can open up more pods that can talk to each other.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It's looking like MeWe followed by Friendica (ISurfSocial) & Diaspora (Pluspora). I'm throwing MINDS under the bus because it's too commercial and the interface. But I'm moving in these case mostly because the this is where the people and groups I care about here are going.

I just found out that you can use wiki markup for text formatting in MeWe! :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Thomas Unterstenhoefer yes. But it seems like Google+ user don't like the big three (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr). And that's not really a surprise. We wouldn't be on Google+ if we liked any of yhe big three.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Laura Ess Friendica and Diaspora are potentially go to have pods connect thru. There is a very active group of developers working on multiple strategies for adding on far many more refugees. And the advantages in those platforms mean there is more opportunities to include the features most refugees miss. This isn’t quite the case with MeWe. Freedom from data collection of the users is a big deal.

  18. Once your storage on MeWe reaches 8 gigs, you either delete content or pay a monthly cloud storage fee. Here's the MeWe storage rates you'll see by clicking on the Cloud button on your MeWe page.

  19. cobalt please Yes, I can see both are the case. This is why instead of just one destination I have a mix. It seems I might be able to forward post from Friendica to Diaspora (but do that manually on MeWe) so personal or general stuff would be easy to do.

Friendica looks intriguing, but you have to know the markdown, and I haven't got there yet. Interesting times we live in.

I am beginning to like MeWe a lot. I just wish I could vacuum up all my friends on Facebook and put them there instead (or Friendica, but I know which one they'd gravitate to). :D.

But Minds, um, er, no. I think I'll disable it for now.

    ReplyDelete
  20. If you're going to have a poll like this, you really should include Diapora/Pluspora, Minds, and maybe Friendica/Nerdica.

I'm on Pluspora. I also have accounts on MeWe and Facebook, but I wouldn't call them my home yet.

This is what I already commented:

“+Martin Krischik The list is limited to 5 options. To not mention the bigger ones makes no sense. I included MeWe because it’s very near to Google+ and will get something like collections in the near future.”

    ReplyDelete
  22. Minds seems to have the biggest similarities to Google+

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thomas Unterstenhoefer Fair enough, but seeing the results, I think excluding Facebook Twittr and Tumblr makes a lot of sense. They have a tiny number of votes, whereas "Other" is the clear winner.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Martijn Vos Feel free to make your own poll. My poll just reflects my opinion and preferences.

    ReplyDelete
  25. For Diaspora* you can also try the Dandelion app. Not sure if it's on Google Play store, but it's at least on the FOSS alternative F-Droid app store.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Klaus Guhr Maybe but I’m not looking for “not bad” homes but good ones. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Pluspora. It seems Pluspora / Diaspora will be more European while MeWe will be more US.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Cuan Knaggs , did you find Pluspora in this apps? Maybe I miss something?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hubzilla. Hubzilla can connect to the rest of the Fediverse plus it has an unique feature called "nomadic identity", meaning you can move your identity from one hub to another without disruption - you also can use both hubs, effectively mirroring your channel

    ReplyDelete
  30. Olivier Malinur Pluspora is a node/pod of diaspora. Get the diaspora app and enter pluspora.com

    ReplyDelete
  31. Cuan Knaggs Pluspora has a size limit for gif posts. If they are over that size you have to post a link.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The Diaspora apps on Google Play is just a junk. Completely useless.
I try to use Dandelion. I search for Pluspora but it is not in the list of available pods.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Facebook. I don't want to migrate everytime.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Olivier Malinur Many people on pluspora find it far easier to bookmark or send to your home screen. You don't need an app to access it or work with it. That's what I do. My iPhone has several browsers that work just fine.

  35. Kathie Gifford Hello. I got a question.
How many pics did you upload so far to reach
    0.45 MB out of 8 GB ??

    ReplyDelete
  36. An image has an average file size of 2MB. So you can upload up to 4,000 images on a 8GB storage.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Nien Nunb Whatever you see on my MeWe account is what is in the .45 mb. That's it. I love gifs and that is what I post the most. I need space!

I'm on Minds and it is the most like Google+ out of the platforms I've tried: MeWe and Pluspora. MeWe is a Facebook experience to me...I have a longstanding Facebook account for family and friends and am an Admin for a group there.

I am exploring the Minds' Videos tab right now. There's tabs for Images, Blogs and Groups too. I don't like the Minds newsfeed because of too much repetition of boosted posts that recycle every so many posts. Now I am just going to my subscribers' pages and clicking on other accounts that appear there.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Kathie Gifford
    thanks for your helpful explanation.
Unfortunately im not on MeWe yet.
So cant see your MeWe account i guess..?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Kathie Gifford thank you for showing me.
    Interface looks interesting

    ReplyDelete
  40. Twitter will be my primary home. The news feeds, national and local, is the best.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I chose other because I'll be here till it's dead. Otherwise MeWe has been a good choice. I'd probably hit 8gb into 5 maybe 6 years, so I'm good.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thomas Unterstenhoefer Images get compressed when uploaded to MeWe. On average they end up at something like 500kb.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Admiral Taptap Hahahaha :-) I have been on MeWe since March and I have never seen any of those. Are you sure, you joined the right groups? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jannik Lindquist They are also compressed on Microsoft One Drive but good quality images (4MB) are still 2MB in size. That’s why I talked about an average file size,

    ReplyDelete
  45. Sexy Irresistible I don’t accept self-promotion on my posts. So I blocked you and deleted your comment.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thomas Unterstenhoefer Respectfully, your estimate for average image size on MeWe is wrong, in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Admiral Taptap I don’t like fake information.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Jannik Lindquist That’s not a question of MeWe but the compressibility rate for HQ images which are posted in groups which topic is photography, etc

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thomas Unterstenhoefer Well - I challenge you to find an image on MeWe which is larger than 1mb :-)

    ReplyDelete
  50. G+ for as long as there are people here to play with. Then probably just using Feedly to follow blogs and journals and commenting directly there. Social media are dead.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Really, the answer is ETER9, but MeWe looks like it'll attract more former Plussers, so I'll be on both.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Just figured out that in addition to following RSS blogs and Dreamwidth journals on Feedly, I can also follow both diaspora and Mastodon feeds in Feedly as well, so at a minimum I’ll be following people that way, and using their posts as the impetus for an occasional dive into the respective comment streams. That kind of leaves MeWe out as they have no RSS or Atom syndication.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I refuse to use a platform that claims to have safety and security in mind but won’t let me use a pseudonym. I might as well be on Facebook.

And I tried MeWe out but, aside from three posts, two of which were from MeWe, I could see nothing.

I immediately deleted my profile and went to Pluspora.

I’m not sure why, if you are truly interested in where people are migrating to, you are pushing MeWe and pooh-poohing Pluspora (or Diaspora). If 5000 of us are there and like it, you have to accept that it is an option that we like.

It has some areas that need beefing up (no blocking - “Ignore” is not quite the same -, no push alerts, no comment “liking”, and a few other things) but I’m happy. So are a lot of other people.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Nien Nunb Sure you can. You can also different pseudonyms with the same account on a per-Group basis.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Gabe Andrews The crypto influx on Minds slowed for me considerably. Not sure it's worth it if I can't even afford a Plus account.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Nien Nunb No. They required my name.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Eli Fennell Well. That wasn’t the impression I got when I signed up.

    I wasn’t impressed. Flat out.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Mudhooks I liked the UI, but not much else has appealed to me, and the crypto thing seems worthless to me.

    ReplyDelete
  59. um well you say Mudhooks i cant use
pseudonym whil Eli Fennell says i can
use pseudo. right. um so? 🤔 😆✌
    maybe im wrong

    ReplyDelete
  60. Nien Nunb I tried to use a pseudonym and couldn’t. It required my name. That was my experience.

    Tough nuggets.

I didn’t like MeWe. I’m not going to apologize for the fact that I didn’t like it.
    😂😆😂😆😆🤯😆🤣🤭🤭🤮👽🤣🤓👽🤮🤮🤣🤯😆😆

    ReplyDelete
  61. Mudhooks no thing 😆✌
I'm still very insecure about MeWe.
No pseudonyms no MeWe. that simple.
    Thanks for your help friend

  67. MeWe sounds like a DVD parents buy to potty train their toddlers.

I'm not really keen on Diaspora or its branches, it looks a huge mess GUI-wise. I've been on Twitter since 2007 but don't post anything of value there much, and I hadn't been really active on FB since about 2012, and killed off my acct in March.

G+ was the only real social network for me (1st day of private beta, June 28, 2011) and it was more the way we could conenct to new people, and the interface I liked. And Hangouts (yes I know Hangouts aren't going away yet but it's all different now, since the integration of them with G+ is nonexistent--and additionally, I'm looking to de-Googlify my life, it's a big job)

I started using Minds around March of last year, because I'd started to learn about Google's (the company) true colors somewhere around 2016, and Minds was being mentioned a lot as a good option. I'm still not quite sure what I'm doing but so far, no real complaints. I'd love to learn the crypto stuff, as far as for how that works with my tokens.

  68. Bobbi Jo Woods You can use Feedly with its nice UI to read diaspora, Dreamwidth, Mastodon, tumblr, and Wordpress blogs and only have to venture into their respective sites or apps if you want to comment or read the comments. Doesn’t work with MeWe.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Bobbi Jo Woods Oh, god, that's awful!

    Here's the User Guide I wrote: http://elifennell.com/eter9-user-guide/

  70. Most likely, I shall choose pluspora.

Originally, I was about to choose MeWe; however, I recently read that the founder of MeWe did not respond to a question regarding whether the sources of his funding included any intelligence agencies, even though he responded to all other questions. It seems that his funding includes intelligence agencies; therefore, I most likely will not choose MeWe.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Mastodon has a nice mobile app on iOS. I still haven’t figured out an easy way to use diaspora on a mobile device.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Brian Holt Hawthorne Dandelion. You need FDroid to install it.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Eli Fennell since he mentioned the Mastodon app for iOS, I kinda doubt he was looking for an Android app though. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  74. Freakin' iOS, man. It's a fine institution, for people who like being institutionalized...

    ReplyDelete
  75. Eli Fennell I like diversity. I use all Google apps on iOS.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Olivier Malinur I use Dandelion on two of my android devices. If you are already on a Diaspora pod, there are plenty of people that can help you with a couple of finer points. It pretty much works the way I use G+ on my phone, even sharing news articles I end up reading in Chrome.

It's not perfect, but it is a pretty great user experience once you get the hang of it - especially for an open source Android App being developed by someone as part of a hobby.

Diaspora on the other hand has some issues. I'm hoping G+ refugees more articulate than myself can convince devs to take on new and improved user experience features.

I'm not sure I trust MeWe any more than I trust Facebook - and I deleted my dominant Facebook account a while ago on principal.

Facebook is a technology transmitted disease. Using it without a digital condom just threatens the well being of your friends and family. Facebook is some bad hombres. Sad.
