I want to thank all of everyone and offer this post for farewells and thanks on G+MM
First, to John Lewis for setting this up and trusting a space alien cat with mod and owner duties. I'm aware I've been the visible one here, but this really is and has been John's show.
Co-moderators: Trey Harris, John Metcalf, Mari Thomas, Edward Morbius, Owner, Jürgen Hubert, Winchell Chung, Amanda Rachelle Warren, DL Keur, Cindy Brown, Filip H.F. “FiXato” Slagter, Julie Wills, Sarah Rios, John Hattan. This couldn't have happened without you, thanks.
A particular bow to Julie Wills, a G+ Top Contributor/Product Expert and one of the Google+ Help mods who's, well, actually helped.
Way too many of the rest of you to shout out. And I'll apologise in advance. Jeff Diver for setting up the G+MM Community Archive: https://gplusmigration.blogspot.com/
Ron "PASHpost" Gavillet for PASHost and a whole slew of community migrations there.
Michael K Johnson, Filip H.F. Slagter, Bernhard Suter, Julian Bond Gideon Rosenblatt, and Alois Bělaška for all they've done (much behind the scenes) on data export and migration. There are more heros here, these are the ones I know of and can remember.
The Archive Team who are 97% of the way to saving all public G+ content to the Internet Archive.
Everyone who's researched and advocated for alternative sites and platforms. Shelenn Ayres, Kathie Gifford, +Trey Harris and +Peter Maranci for their site alternative spreadsheets.
And far too many more. Please add anyone you think I've left out in comments.
Please add your own thoughts here.
For those looking for the farewell party, I recommend Lights Out Google+, set up by Eli Fennell, here: https://plus.google.com/communities/111719944758239097585 Party like it's 2019-04-02!
For all that....
There's still work to do and information to share. This is a working Community, and we're going to try to make sure that the work can be seen and heard, so yes, we'll be removing some posts. Again: please direct your farewells to the Lights Out Google+ Community.
We're into the shutdown window, and so far as I'm concerned, this is bonus time on the clock. Let's use it well.
For some of the ongoing work:

Nah, let's waste the bonus time posting silly comments. 😸
ReplyDeleteThank you - the people in G+MM stopped my G+ whimpering away into ghost town months ago. And pointed me to Openbook for after.
ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone!
ReplyDeleteWhat is this place, can someone send me an invite?
ReplyDeleteJohn Lewis Which place?
ReplyDeleteThis "Google Plus" thing. I want an invite.
ReplyDelete/me sends John Lewis a musty salmon.
ReplyDeleteMM has really evolved from its humble beginnings - Just goes to show the level of Ability, Talent, Interest thats here
ReplyDeleteIt seems G- wants out of the management game - I feel they missed the boat here,
They Could Have Turned problem-challenge over to the USER BASE to weigh in - present solutions
Rather than kill off the Evolving Baby - This is their Biggest Mistake along with bloating the number of never active user base accounts, which perverted their analysis
We have ___ users divided by ___ time on our servers
#ghostaccounts skew
brought the activity result way down - very flawed not near accurate
would love to see the real numbers if it’s possible 🙏

And: if anyone is fond of eclectic, long, and very awkward-do-navigate playlists, I've been compiling an "end of the world / new beginnings" set here:
ReplyDeleteplus.google.com - Music / Audio
The start is the December 11 post "April, Come She Will", and continues through ... the final entry.
I'll list the tracks eventually, but they're there for now.
Thanks, Edward Morbius . Right back at you. You have been tireless in your efforts to help people through this difficult situation.
ReplyDeleteIt's weird. I thought I'd made my last comment last night. To wake up and find things still here feels strange. It's like Google can't even pull the plug properly.
Thanks for the mention, and farewell Edward Morbius
ReplyDeleteJulie Wills Rupert gets a nod too. I appreciate both of your work.
ReplyDeleteCA M There's a "Post mortem" category I've just created at #PlexodusWiki, and it'll be interesting to see what thoughts people have on what's happened here.

ReplyDeleteEdward Morbius do you think they will wait and let you finish first?
ReplyDeleteAlso: stats on G+MM, via F+MGE archive: we've had 1,694 posts since launching on October 8, 2018.
ReplyDeletePeak membership was 4,653, it's down about 50 (roughly 1%) today, as people are deleting their G+ profiles, best I can tell.

ReplyDeleteRunning two AT VMs over the last couple of days I've archived 2679 profiles soon. My two cents.
ReplyDeleteEdward Morbius This is all public posts?
ReplyDeleteOh, is there a way to tell what was the peak usage of Google+? Can you mine for the most users concurrently posting publicly (over 24 hours, I'll assume)? How big was this place when it was active?
ReplyDeleteSomeone said G+ activity is peaking now. Death throes as we all return to say goodbye.
ReplyDeleteI'm seeing a lot of ghosts accounts coming back for rather unneeded "goodbyes" , wouldn't be surprised if we reach peak activity this way
ReplyDeleteEdward Morbius As usual, well said. Thank you for your endless energy in making the best of a very difficult situation and reflecting the can-do Community values well-honed on Google+.
ReplyDeleteEdward Morbius Very well done, Sir. For someone like me it has been an education to watch your work here.
ReplyDeleteAs of 9 am US/Pacific, it appears that most unauthenticated G+ access is lost.
ReplyDeleteArchiveTeam are mostly sucking login redirect screens right now.
But we've got 98.5% - 99% of all profiles. We're going to have to see how much is redirects, but that should only be the last hour or so of activity.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting this now on my consumer account. So, most likely, very few of you will see this post. :-)

Filip H.F. Slagter Thank you Filip as well for all your assistance in educating members re PASHpost!
ReplyDeleteSo long, and thanks for all the fish...
ReplyDeleteI’ll check back later from my GSuite account.
