I used Google+ with closed communities to collaborate with teams around the world.
I have a few paid Google Suite accounts for one domain that I and a few others share, but mostly people communicate via their own Gmail account.
If I recreate my communities under my Google Suite Account and share the communities to users outside my local domain accounts, will users with their private accounts still be able to access my company's communities after the shutdown?

Nobody knows and Google isn’t saying.
ReplyDeleteBrian Holt Hawthorne thanks Brian. I haven't been able to find any information on this so far and I was starting to worry that I missed something.
ReplyDeleteScott Donald Several people have expressed the opinion that it is likely that G Suite google+ will only be accessible with an organization. I hope they are wrong, as cross-enterprise collaboration is probably the best use for G+ on G Suite.
ReplyDeleteBut the Google blog posts about new enterprise features for G+ on G Suite have been remarkably silent on this topic.
So far it sounds like the enterprise version of Google+ as used by G Suite customers will be solely an intranet solution, meaning it will only be accessible from within the specific G Suite domain.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately there's not (yet?) been a public announcement to make this clear to consumers.

ReplyDeleteScott Donald: We're operating in an information vacuum entirely imposed by Google, but signs strongly suggest that no, G Suite profiles and Communities will not be generally publicly accessible.
ReplyDeleteIf you're looking for a group-based interaction that crosses organisational (or more critically: G Suite domain) boundaries, you should plan now on looking elsewhere.
Moreover:
Public G+ Profiles cannot presently be converted to G Suite profiles.
Public G+ Communities cannot presently be converted to G Suite profiles.
It is not possible to import content to Google+ Profiles or Communities, either public or G Suite.
To the best of my knowledge.

Edward Morbius That for the detailed comments and link. I tried a community handover test today to a GSuite account and discovered that I couldn't, like you mentioned above, convert the Community to an GSuite version (It retains the public version) controls only which would mean it would be deleted come April.
ReplyDeleteHope fully we will get more information on this soon. Meanwhile I'll search for alternatives.
Scott Donald Right. Mind: Google might change this, but they might not, and presently this path does not work.
ReplyDeleteAn abundance of caution says "use a different tool".
