Can anyone help, please?
The owner of our private haiku group on G+ where we can safely workshop our writes before publication, has set up the community on Mewe
https://mewe.com/group/5bc540ee0297e45804dc5324
but he does not know if it is private, nor does he know how to check if it is private or not. (sigh. . .) I would be grateful to anyone who can explain if this is possible, or say where else we can have a private community, thanks.

Martha Magenta when I click the link it asks do i want to open with mewe or chrome...with mewe it says something went wrong with chrome it takes me to the page asking why I want to join the community
ReplyDeleteOn my phone....the
ReplyDeleteowner needs to ...go to group....go to the (I) then click how members can join...then members join....then it shows the three choices...private (invite only) bring one of them, they just need to check that's the box that is checked
karen hayward Thanks Karen - what was that you meant "bring one of them"
ReplyDeletealso is this something he can do now that the group has been set up?
Martha Magenta *being....new phone and predictive text gets excited 😎
ReplyDeleteIt looked like I had the option of changing mine, I didn't try to, but the option seemed to be there
karen hayward Oh great - well, it does look like it is private, but I will pass on your info to Willie - thanks so much Karen!
ReplyDeleteIt is private, with ask to join. If I click the link, I am asked to fill in the questions that the approver will review.
ReplyDeleteIf you want a very private MeWe forum, you create one that is
1. Not listed on MeWe
2. Invite only
Lars Fosdal thanks. It only needs to be private in that the content is not viewable from outside and cannot be found on search engines.
ReplyDeleteMartha Magenta That kind of private is the current default for any group on MeWe.
ReplyDeletePublic groups (although a MeWe login will still be required, it seems) is due to appear in November. I am not sure if there will be an option to have such public forums crawled by search engines.
Lars Fosdal that's good to know - thank you!
ReplyDeleteInside the group: Settings / Membership. There is a radio button for private or public or selective.
ReplyDeleteBut even an open group will be hidden from outsiders until it has 5 members. Only then is it visible in search.
Thank you, there are way more than five.
ReplyDeleteAt the very least it is making me put in a request to join the group, so that seems to imply that it is private.
ReplyDeleteLeon Shaner Yes so it seens, thanks. That already answered in above comments.
ReplyDeleteYes you can. I set up a Boxer page there that no one can find ( on purpose). We were testing it out to see if we would like it. It is not visible in a search of groups. When he set it up, it asked what type of group. Have them go to settings within the group and change to members must be invited.........
ReplyDeleteBrenda Haggai We are not bothered about showing up in a search of groups. Just we don't want any of our content to be searchable anywhere on the internet. Thank you, yes I think it must be private
ReplyDeleteThe answers you seek
ReplyDeleteare found in online support
if you Google search
Scott Jordan thanks but I think I have the answer.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for your help. I think my question has been well answered, so I will shut down comments now. Thanks again!
