Did anyone look at eter9 ? This has just been brought to my attention and it seems to have a lot of public-friendly, communities-friendly features (beyond the hype about AI, which seems more like a long term idea than actual feature)...
Sounds better than the MeWe everybody's raving about, if you care about referencing (linking to) old posts (even within the platform, let alone outside of it) and sharing/publishing at large (rather than to small closed reciprocal groups only). It's clear some of the praise of MeWe comes from people who simply attempt to make others follow them there, rather than actual assessment of pros/cons. When it's all pros, it's fake.

I haven't checked it out yet, mainly because the AI thing sounded gimmicky. I've heard a few other people mention it as well as Eli, so I'll have to check it out at some point.
ReplyDeleteI'm on Eter9. You can find me under this name. I haven't been able to figure out how to use this platform. I've made one post.
ReplyDeleteMichael Warburton The A.I. is gimmicky, I will not lie about that. Where it exists, it is so rare and underwhelming it sticks out like an onion ring in a french fry basket. But, that's kind of a good thing: you're not really jumping into the Deep End, just dipping a toe in the shallows, and you can see where it goes as it improves in coming years and see how you feel about.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, as far as Communities, there are none on ETER9. There are Collections, with about 10 or so preset categories, and you can add any Post to multiple Collections and even Collect other user's Posts without Resharing them (as you'd have to do on Google+). But there's no ability to Follow or Unfollow specific Collections, and no asynchronous Following. You can, however, broadcast to nearly the whole ETER9 Community by Posting to Eliza Nine's Cortex; you have a Public Posts option and Public Settings available for your Profile (though Public means In-Network, not On Web); and the network does a good job of recommending Connections, and helping you Connect with users you already follow on Facebook (if you have any), as well as cross-posting to Facebook.
I also really like how they handle Resharing. The Share actually embeds the Original Post, so that Smiles, Shares, and Eternalizations stay constant even as it spreads on the network.
The people are the best part. Like G+ in the early days, we're an exploratory bunch, and eager to Share and learn from each other.
Oh, it also has really good Stream Customization Settings.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll try it. MeWe doesn't have much appeal to me as I have read the t&c and found them more controlling and rigid than g+.
