Friendica update: after creating the account, oh, about a week ago and setting the profile type to "community," the community forum that I created has finally been updated to be, y'know, a community.
After setting my personal account as a manager, I can make posts and edit the profile, but can't edit the account settings without logging in to the account proper. Less than useful, but better than it was.
Nevertheless: communities are a thing over on Friendica! And posts from the community are at least shared over to d*, but I don't know if non-Friendica users can make posts. More info as time progresses.

Just created a Friendica account (https://libranet.de/display/0b6b25a8-285b-c88d-113b-b9d656090161 for first impressions) but I'm not quite sure yet how to actually use the forums. Will have to look further into that later.

Filip H.F. Slagter So, I can't reply to your message on Friendica, but you mentioned there that you don't know how to tag forums in posts. I was able to tag the forum that I created by preceding it with a @ (like tagging a user).
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, if you want to post to a forum from your home "share" box, tag it with a ! and you will post to the forum. (I just discovered...)
Trevor Schadt strange that you can't reply to my Friendica post... I haven't disabled comments afaik. I'll double check that in a bit.
ReplyDeleteSo, I should use both @ and ! as in @!Friendica Support instead to tag the support forum? Thanks, will check that too.
No. If you use the @ it will tag the forum just like if you did that for a user. If you the the ! it will post to the forum. Use them separately.
ReplyDeleteFilip H.F. Slagter On the Friendica node you're on, go to the Help section and have a boo at the "Community Forums" section for a clear explanation on what @ and ! mean in regards to posting. Don't forget that you need to be connected (a part of) a forum before posting to it.
ReplyDeleteTrevor Schadt Just noticed your post here and wanted to apologise for the time it took to get your Forum account to actually work as a forum. social.isurf.ca - iSurf Social (home) had a strange bug triggered that backlogged a bunch of work on the server for several days. It's been resolved, but I posted about it in the iSurf support forum at https://social.isurf.ca/display/c443a55c805bc7ac8952396075675595
Hope that helps!
Adam Clark Thanks! I'm guessing that a lot of Federation/Fediverse nodes are going to be a bit bogged down with the influx of G+ users. Thank you for being an on-the-ball mod!!
