have you seen LinkedIn? There are groups of all kinds, people writing articles on a great many topics, actual grown-ups discussing issues and ideas, in many ways a superior experience to G+ but, of course, G+ provides other experiences I enjoy, so a place with more of what I get from each of these would be appreciated.
