Has anyone had any luck or a good experience setting up a community (or community-like space) through friendica? I've been trying and taking my time, but a lot of things are going over my head.

ReplyDeletenonie... it looks like the easiest way is to use an advanced user type so let me step you through that
ReplyDeletecreate a friendica user using the name of the community you want to setup, authenticate via the signup email then login wit the community user name
then, go to settings and select advanced account types and scroll to find the community forum type.. change it to that :)
then all users need to do is connect to that community user which is now a forum
I've tried. The forum exists, but I've been having trouble trying to subscribe even my own other account to it. I'll update as the process continues.
ReplyDeleteShelenn Ayres Yeah, I've already got that part of the basics down, thanks. I've been looking around, and some of the other basic questions I have I can't seem to find the answers to. For instance is it possible to have community subsections?
ReplyDeleteTrevor Schadt From the looks of it, you can have multiple accounts attached to one email address. Try using a different email(if you have access to another one) and see if you can do it that way.

ReplyDeleteFrom a post I made about Friendica: “One thing that isn’t obvious: things like Communities here are actually a special kind of user on Friendica. If you sign up, take a look at Settings -> Account -> Advanced Account Types. You can see the various kinds of accounts you can create, but you have to create an account for each thing.
ReplyDeleteFortunately, once you set up an account, you can use Settings -> Account -> Delegations, and indicate that your main account can fully administer a secondary account.
So, like, if you want to create a “Crocanana’s Rule” community, you’d create a new account for just that, set its “advanced type” to “community”, delegate control of that account to your main account. Not nearly as easy as starting a G+ community, but not that bad. (Plus, this also allows “ownership” of said community to be transferred to some other delegate, if that ever becomes necessary.)
