Hearing about the shutdown of Google+ caused me to recall thoughts I have had for building a new social platform but I am not a developer. How do I get my ideas to developers who might be interested?

  1. Hi Ralph Gauthier . I'm a developer but I think we should first take a look at the current alternatives. However, I'm interested in creating tools for making the migration as smooth as possible keeping your posts, circles, communities and collections more or less the same.

  2. Miguel Alejandro Gamboa that would be awesome. Any promising strategies so far?

  3. Miguel Alejandro Gamboa Keeping one's circles seems key and potentially the hardest part. There are alternatives like plusporia (a disporia pod), but it isn't clear how to map the g+ identities to plusporia ones and how to even get one's circles to create an account there.

  4. The thing that drew me to Google+ and the thing that I loved about the platform was that it evolved around topics and points of interests rather than existing personal relationships. This allowed me to meet some wonderful, like-minded people that I otherwise would never have met and I liked the fact that the platform wasn't a walled garden like Facebook.

What I was wondering is if it was possible to create a platform or network that lets the individual own, curate and control all of their content and information but somehow allow people on other social platforms to plug in to this new platform to access the data. Essentially I wanted to be able to create a virtual entity on the internet to contain the essence of who I am, my thoughts and opinions, interests, likes, dislikes and make that entity discoverable.

One of the great drawbacks of Facebook and even Google+, is that I will be in a conversation and I know that I have posted about the topic before. Maybe I even remember a specific article from a couple of years ago but I can't find the original post. I want my online presence to be indexed and searchable not just so I can find what I said 5 years ago but so others can as well. It would also be nice to jump to specific points or dates in someone's timeline to see if what they are telling me today is different from what they were telling me 5 years ago.

I realize that Google being the search giant probably has a leg up on creating what I am asking for but is any of this peaking anyone's interest?

Btw, Google, if you're listening, I live across the river from your Iowa data center and I would love to put, "Worked for Google" on my tombstone. LOL

  5. Your online presence in s sort of like the master copy and you could drop it into any other existing social platform but maybe control what's visible on that platform.

  6. I think what I am asking for is an online social presence standard and for social platforms to be compliant with that standard.
