I posted this question to MeWe's CEO two days ago, and haven't received a response yet. I hope that I wasn't out of line!
+Mark Weinstein I imagine you're sick of questions by now, but I have three that I think would tip the balance for many G+ users - if the answers are right.
1. Will public posts on MeWe be linkable and directly accessible to non-MeWe users? That is, will Facebook users (for example) be able to click on a link and go directly to a public post on MeWe?
2. Will search engines such as Google be able to index and search public MeWe posts, and link directly to them in applicable search results?
3. This one is tougher: obviously a lot of G+ users are feeling burned. We are being thrown out of our online home. What assurance (if any) can you give us that MeWe is here for the long term, and won't be sold or shut down?

ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this . This is an awesome community
Since google announced the end I have seen a lot of friends and followers joining MeWe
Since this is all new to me as I have been here at google for many years . For the moment I have not join this and quite uncertain
Been checking other options
Isabella_ bella I've been on MeWe for more than 3 years now, so I may have a different perspective on it than most. It's a good service, but I don't think it's a good replacement for Google Plus. Not unless they can remedy the limitations I listed in my first two questions.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, this whole situation with G+ is kind of like a divorce. It's natural for people to want to find a replacement quickly. We call that a rebound relationship. The problem is that rushing into a new relationship without careful evaluation can be a disaster.
I like the people I've met on Google Plus. I like the communities and conversations. I would hate to see all that go into a walled garden, cut off from the rest of the world - and as it stands, that's what MeWe is.
We deserve better. And that's why I want answers to my questions: I don't want to see G Plus members stampeded into a fast and wrong choice. That's why this group exists. To research and make the wisest decision.
Peter Maranci Yes I totally agree with you
ReplyDeleteI don’t want to rush into anything
I have Twitter but hardly use that. Just started Instagram but unsure of what to do
I just posted this site under my profile so my friends and followers can read and not jump into different sites
I’m more than sad as I have made many close friends here
Yes like a divorce and we are rebounding to wherever we fit
Thank you for your reply ☺️
Isabella_ bella Just FYI, Instagram is now owned by Facebook. And if I recall, the creators of Instagram recently left the company. Apparently Facebook is starting to apply their usual policies to Instagram data and users.
ReplyDeleteWhich is why I personally have stopped posting on Instagram. As for Twitter, I have an account. But I have to admit that I've never really understood Twitter. Maybe I'm too old. Or maybe I just like to talk too much! 😄
They've said that public posts will be linkable but not searchable in the future. There was a post from their dev head earlier this month. I can't find the post now, I found it searching for the guys name and I don't remember it now.
ReplyDeletePeter Maranci I was not aware about Instagram and Facebook. I dislike Facebook
ReplyDeleteI have not posted my link to Instagram as I’m still unsure about that site.
I love google. Wish they would charge us a certain fee for using this place and it would also keep the scammers away
I hope they would change their mind but I doubt
Kee Hinckley When you come across that post please repost here
ReplyDeleteI love to keep updated on all my options
Kee Hinckley I heard that they would have public posting as of December, but that those posts would be "public" only within MeWe. If so, it would still be a walled garden as far as the rest of the web is concerned. Members would just be a bit freer inside MeWe.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I posted those questions. I wanted to nail that issue down with no evasions.
And if posts won't be seen by search engines, that still cuts off most of the web as potential new readers and contacts. I can't speak for anyone else, but a lot of people seem to have found and enjoyed some of my old posts by finding them through a search engine!
Kee Hinckley Wasn't it a video + transcript?
ReplyDeleteWas in their help page, I think.
Peter Maranci I think your last question is not reasonable at all. I read that public postings are going to be available soon and I like the idea that they will be public only within MeWe.
ReplyDeleteWe should not be expecting for MeWe to be a replica of G+. After all G+ was not a replica of Facebook. G+ evolved over time, they added features, removed features, improved some, messed up others. MeWe will go over the same process as users request features that are compatible with their philosophy of freedom of expression.
These are excellent questions.
ReplyDeleteI've wanted to share short essays I've written on G+ to friends but they have been hesitant to click.
Allowing sharing outside the wall is the best way to increase readership and expand community. (As long as the controls against spammers are strong and easy to use.)

ReplyDeleteI believe the answers are:
1:- No.
2:- No
3:-None
At least I HOPE they are.
Andrew Hatchett Just curious. On 1 & 2, why do you feel that way?
ReplyDeletePeter Maranci
ReplyDeleteUnlike most, I'm not particularly interested in numbers, or dealing with the spammers, scammers, or extremists of either side.
I'm also not interested in those who want to be spoonfed and have everything made easy or dumbed down for them. I LOVE helping people - but only if they are willing to do the work it takes to be helped.
For those who like unwalled gardens there are a thousand out there - so why make one more?
Andrew Hatchett I agree with your last posting 100% especially your last paragraph.
