I'm currently on mewe and pluspora (diaspora), but don't really check mewe. I'm getting increasingly interested in friendica and hubzilla. They seem to be like diaspora but more feature complete.
Pluspora user here. In my eyes MeWe is just another One-Company-Player, that can either close over night or starts to put ads in your stream. I'm on PP for a week now and my stream is full of interesting stuff.
It's probably easier to migrate on a federated network if someone drops a node, than to rescue a social network if the owning startup fails. The real question to worry about is: is MeWe making enough money to ensure its continued survival?
You really can't go wrong anywhere in the federation. I have nothing against MeWe except that it's based on a centralized structure, and you have zero input and zero control. At least with the diaspora pods, you can have input and ownership, which is probably more important than most people realize.

That page links to Exodus Planning and Scheduling which suggests a four-phase process, starting with planning, securing your G+ data, and assessing alternatives. Making commitments and moving should probably start in January and end around April/May for most people and groups (there's some rationale for this).
