Just tried out MeWe, and the server is often down, I don't feel comfortable to set mewe as my "home".
It's difficult to find another home...
maybe facebook is still better.
I don't want to migrate everytime.

  1. But facebook is a privacy nightmare!

  2. Shaina Cole Yes I completely understand you. But usually we don't upload so important things which really matter our privacy. I also don't like Facebook, but can't find any place stable... Facebook, at least we know there will be no need to migrate again soon. :)

  3. Shaina Cole all social media is a privacy nightmare. Don't put any info on Social Media that you would mind getting out.

  4. Nethar6 Yes, exactly what i wanted to tell. :)

  5. Lana Maia MeWe isn't able to handle the sudden surges, that is because no one was prepared for the G+ news.
But G+ is going to stay up till August and all the other social media sites are going to build their infrastructure with the increased demands.
Unless you go to the monopol of FB every other provider will have the same problem unless the g+ users split up onto different services altogether.
Give sites like MeWe time to grow and adjust (also expect them to add some paid features so they can afford the new servers they will need).
You don't have to put all you did on G+ on a different site today.

  6. Nethar6 Since google announced G+ news publicly I completely lost feeling to continue anything on my G+. Anyway although i knew all SNS will be gone one day. but it's still too soon. Never thought google would give up on G+

  7. Actually, this applies to the whole Internet, not only social medias. The Internet is a public place, or can also be seen as another one's place, it depends. Just never, ever behave tell or show what you wouldn't in such places in real life. Be even more careful, because the Internet never forgets...

  8. Pluspora is at this moment the fastest growing G+-community, with about 5.300 new users from everywhere around the world. And they connect and they're active!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Shaina Cole The site UI is not pleasant... Lol

    ReplyDelete
  10. The server is not often down on MeWe. Maybe you have an issue at your end. I've been using the app and website with no issues

    ReplyDelete
  11. Lana Maia Ya, I agree. maybe we can get in touch with its creators and send them some sort of feedback

    ReplyDelete
  12. Mark Stronge It does. I tried many times. It down for 1 or 2 minutes, then reconnect again.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Lana Maia exept FB there just is no place that can handle so many people. Best strategy is to keep up on G+ until the chaos settles and the best alternatives emerge. Mass exodus now will cause every provider (other than FB) to crash. Acting rash now might mean to miss out on the best alternative just because its not the best right now.
Give it atleast 2 month better 6 while shopping around for the best social media for you

  14. Nethar6 Interesting thought, makes sense

  15. Nethar6 Definitely correctly said. I'll keep my eye on that. :)

  16. I've been on it constantly, getting push notifications etc. It's been really active with do many coming from g+, this place feels alive, but there are a few people on Linux who said that they had trouble, but it's browser based issues. Try the app.

Edit: some have mentioned on the Google+ community in MeWe that the web interface may be having issues, try the Android app, it's been flawless.

Pluspora doesn't have an app and doesn't do push notifications, and doesn't host photos, just links as far as I could see, I think Noah used it on the ark.

MeWe is laid out almost the same as the Google+ app except you have chat integrated and each group has a separate chat room.

  17. We're actually not very many people. G+ has a lot of accounts, but due to low posting rates and interactions, it'n not needed to use FB as only alternative.

I don't want to sound like a Pluspora-ad-bot, but when I got up this morning, I had 22 notifications, 5 of them from new followers. And I started there last Monday. PP is actually the biggest club with most visitors. And you can change your language settings to "pirate english"! Arrrgh...:D...!

  18. Lana Maia even if you don't post "important things" you'll help to keep a privacy nightmare stay alive just by using it.

Let me second the tip from Don Krypton to try out pluspora.com or any other diaspora pod first.

I've just tried PlusPora, and it seems really nice. I like the clean UI and site works very fast without any bug. :)

  21. Don Krypton Thank you, and I'm actually now on PlusPora, and i'll see more what could happen :)

  22. Mark Stronge First impression on MeWe, I feel it's not my "home"...

    ReplyDelete
  23. If you are referring to some of the groups, you could say that about here or Facebook or Reddit or 4chan etc. It's what you make of it that counts.

  24. Cuan Knaggs m... What's the difference between Pluspra and Diasp?

  25. Please everybody maintain your https://aboutme.google.com so we can find each other in the future. Make the links to your other/new social network profiles visible to your g+ followers.

  26. Diaspora is made of "pods", like instances of social networks or imagine hubs. These pods are federated under a common super hub, Diaspora. And there is a European Union of various social medias which is called Fediverse.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh and that's one of the main reasons why decentralization and getting back our data is important.
This why the only thing I'm sure is that I will leave for a distributed, federated network. Which one remains to be determined...

Edit: because networks communicate with each other, and because my first test on the demo felt sweeter, at that point, I'd favor Hubzilla over Diaspora...

  28. I decided to try minds.com - Minds as a replacement for Google+. To my surprise I found a very similar Google+ experience on Minds. I don't care about earning money for content, so I am ignoring that and using Minds like I would Google+. I still set up my Minds wallet because it seemed to be a requirement.

I can't imagine social media without gifs...it's my passion. Minds accepts my gifs which tend to be large in size. Pluspora did not. Pluspora also abbreviated the posts so you had to click on 'Show More' to see the whole post. Minds does not do that. It's more like Google+.

At Minds, you set up your profile (Channel). As I understand it, you won't see your friends' posts unless you subscribe to their channel. They will need to subscribe to your channel too. Put hashtags in your post for wider distribution in searches.

  29. Stefan Gundlach thanks for the aboutme idea, very good one. Let's spread it!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Kathie Gifford Minds looks nice too. Definitely have to try :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Kathie Gifford joined minds when they launched, and retried in the last days... I too don't care about the monetary side of it (nevertheless have fears about the behavioral impact it can have on users), but it puts so many things in the way in terms of UI/UX!
And finally, not distributed, not federated, no go!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Lana, what is your name on Pluspora, so I can add you ?

    ReplyDelete
  33. The best alternative social network is Facebook and if you want to have a second thing, then try Vero it's a social network based in NYC, lovely greetings from Sarah and have a wonderful day and stay safe out there and take care of you ☺💖☺💖☺💖☺💖☺💖

  34. I don't like the MeWe interface, but it seems to have quite a bit of momentum, including their CEO coming here to answer questions, which is a great sign.

I like Pluspora more, but Diaspora development seems to be incredibly slow. I'm getting involved in development and I'll see if I can speed something up. (Maybe even run my own instance with a fork that has the features we want, if it comes to that.) But if Diaspora development is too slow, I may look elsewhere.

  35. Haven't had any issues with MeWe being down at all. Been on it constantly since the news.

    ReplyDelete
  36. MeWe has a 99.9% uptime - we've only had one outage in the past 6 months. And that was just 1 hour and 15 minutes.

  37. Mark Weinstein explain then the inability to register with the SMS (the code number is considered as wrong) AND with email address.
