...not sure if anyone else has given out this info, but in the following link, which outlines using Google Takeout for downloads, step 2 outlines the specific data elements to target in your extract.

In my first attempt, I made the mistake of not clicking the "Select None" button, and received a "Sorry, but we weren't able to fetch all the data you requested." message, along with a massive 12 segmented downloads to retrieve. Doh!!

"2. CHOOSE THE DATA YOU WISH TO DOWNLOAD
Step two requires you to specifically select the data you want to download.
Because Google Takeout archives the data for all Google products, you will want to make sure you select only the products related to your Google+ account.

To do so, you must first click the "Select None" button, and then scroll down the list to make the following selections:

+1s
Google+ Circles
Google+ Communities
Google+ Stream
Hangouts
Hangouts on Air
Profile

  1. Takeout contents are practically worthless. Go ahead and, once you download, extract and look through the contents.

  2. ...quick question to anyone: in Google Takeout, what is the difference between "Posts" as a sub-item under Google Stream, and "Posts on Google" as it's own data item for extract? Note that "Posts on Google" was not one of the items suggested in the select list in step 2 above...

  3. ...ok, reporting back: success! paired my choices back to just those suggested, and recieved a ~300MB extract file. Did it once for JSON format, and another subset just of Posts in HTML format (210MB extract file)

DL Keur ...the extracted file can be opened and contents placed as a folder in Explorer. Within that I navigate to the subfolder with Google+ Streams for Posts. Within that I first see a variety of jpeg and excel files for images and their metadata. Further down the list I see the beginnings of my actual posts. I use a simple file viewer app, and in the JSON extracted version, I see them presented as Java scripted files. In the HTML version, I see them in my viewer as fully readable files, which can be transferred to MS Word, for example...

  4. Pat Johnston I've been an active G+ user since closed beta. I tried a takeout of "Posts on Google" the other day just to see what would happen, and received an archive that indicated I had none. So you can ignore that item fairly safely, but you can include it if you aren't sure.

Rick Williams Yes, Gmail is a separate product. And if you actually use your Gmail (many people don't use it as their primary), I strongly advise making a separate takeout if you feel a need to download that. My Gmail became my primary email in early 2005, and even compressed, the file size is... er... regrettably large.

  5. Sallie Alys Montuori ...thanks! Discovered that in the results of my extracts.

  6. Sallie Alys Montuori This is all beyond me, if my gmail is separate, why do I need to do anything?

  7. You may as well just download the photos and videos you want to keep .. This is for restoration of G+ if you have a problem with it .. If G+ is gone .. the download is pointless ..

  8. Rick Williams You don't need to download anything at all if you don't want to. These instructions are for people who like to keep archives of their stuff when they move on, especially if they want to try to put the data back online again somewhere else.

  9. It was worth it to me to download my considerable collection of photos, dating back to Picasa, many of which were no longer on my computer due to a massive hard drive crash. Took a while to get them sorted into the proper albums and imported back into Lightroom, then get rid of any duplicates, but I don't consider that a waste of my time.

  10. Pat Kight I tried downloading mine, and it gave me my profile pictures only,

  11. I know people who WERE successful in downloading their G+ profile using Takeout. I was not, only because I did not log in as my G+ URL: https://plus.google.com/+MikeWatersW0BTU . *That important step is not mentioned in the OP*, and I suggest that you add that. TIA.
As a consequence of not understanding that, now when I go the Takeout page on my Linux machine, I'm always logged in. :-(
Therefore, I can't use that one to download my G+ profile. And rather that figure out what cookie to delete so I can see the login screen again, I'm just going to use my wife's office Linux Mint machine.
(Unless anyone has a better suggestion!) 😁
