Sorry, but why would you want to "save" G+ when all that will happen is they would prolong the death for another year or so to appease people and then kill it anyway? It's what they do. just my thought.
Google isn't making enough money off the free version of G+ to justify the costs of keeping it online, moderated, updated, and secure. It's a business decision to close it.
Remember, social media is not free. It's "free for me" in the sense that, while you may not pay anything to use it, the company still has to make money off of it somehow. And if it can't do that, then it goes away.
And short of somehow guaranteeing that Google can make more money with G+, there's no way to stop this. No petitions, or reposting of posts are going to do anything.
