The loss of Google+ is shattering to me.

The loss of Google+ is shattering to me. I cannot tolerate Facebook.and Twitter has Trump, enough said there. Over the last 7 years. I have met over 6,000 people (look at my following) via Google+. Fascinating, mind-expanding, global connections...and now it's to be gone?

  1. The Wet sPoOpY Napkin I can't think of anything to do to stop it. There's a petition going around but it probably won't make a difference. So sad.

  2. Karras Bommer ya I signed it but Idk how far it will get us in the first place since the website doesnt rly follow the promise implied by its name

  3. There is no stopping it. Google has never gone back on such an announcement. Remember Reader?

Make use of the 10 months to rebuild on another platform. I'm doing it right now on MeWe.

What's more Google may speed up the time table.

  4. Phillip Landmeier Thank you. Good advice. I will check out MeWe

  5. I wish Google plus had Trump, then I would be more popular

  6. Phillip Landmeier Then best to tackle this NOW. So far I've joined Pluspora, Minds, and Friendica. Minds is the only one that's freaked me out. But in general it's not the features that get people in, it's the contacts they may know from real life and elsewhere.

  7. Unless you rebuild on a platform you host yourself, you're inevitably going to end up in the same situation again at some point down the road.

  8. [ Dude ] Karras Bommer let's keep this productive, please.

  9. Phillip Landmeier Google have reversed some rollouts, but never a closure, AFAIR.

  10. Laura Ess Yeah, I wouldn't stand still. There's no loss to setting up on a platform, finding all your plusser friends, and then changing platforms. Keep the account to not lose track of contacts there, just not use it. There are no rules to this. Altho MeWe reserves the right to delete accounts with zero activity for at least a year.

Your comment about Minds reminds me of what I used to say ten years ago: Facebook is where you connect with old acquaintances you no longer talk to. Twitter is where you meet interesting people you wish you knew in real life.

  11. Laura Ess can you elaborate on "minds freaked you out"?

  12. TBH, I'm kind of still in shock about the situation.
I keep trying to use other platforms, but... Frick. It's just not right.
I feel like I'm pathetic or something for being so emotional about a stupid electronic communication platform, but... shit, I've practically lived here since its inception. Like, wherever I go -work, home, everywhere else, G+ has been with me.
As I type this, I realize the real problem is not the impending loss of the platform, but the people and type of interaction.
It's not the electronic system I have had as a companion, but the people here and the methods of interaction.
I guess I'm scared that, despite our best efforts on other platforms, that level of companionship and interaction is going to be lost.
I never realized how important this had become to me until just now, as I'm typing this comment that I can barely see because everything is watery and blurry now.

  13. eric peacock I'm in the same boat ma nigga. I understand completely. I have barely been on the site for about 5 months and I feel robbed of a part of my life.

Not only has it been my main source of memes, the ppl I have met on here and the small world kind of community is something to cherish, not just carelessly toss out as google is doing.

  15. Edward Morbius the antagonist in that exchange (dude) shouldn't be in this group, they are clearly here to poke fun at people's loss.

  16. Craig Barratt Thanks. I'm keeping an eye on.

    Don't make the problem worse.

  18. eric peacock So well said. I, too, was with Google+ from the beginning. Over the years all the trolls and mean-spirited people were weeded out and the stream, every day, was filled with the sharing from other countries. Pictures, quotes, thoughts...a family of man. I do not know if it can ever be reproduced.
