A thought and question
G+ was a cost free 'app'. Google made nothing from advertising.
Could a new app , G+ like with subcommunities, be developed if we were to move away from the free model?

I know of several communities doing this very thing for their large groups.

ReplyDeleteCould? yes.. but the probability of Google doing so is exceedingly slim.
Apps require back-ends, and users.
ReplyDeleteAn app alone won't resurrect G+, and doesn't solve Google's concerns with the service. It likely would increase them, given API shutdown.
There are numerous similar services with apps: Reddit, Facebook, I believe one/some of the Federated systems, MeWe.
There may be other concerns with several of these.
Stuart O'Neill Yes. This is the model that MeWe is taking. Or rather, they are taking the “freemium” approach where the basic system is free and you pay for premium features.
