Did anyone else enjoy seeing the CEO of Google squirm while at congress a little too much? I did and I am not ashamed to say it.

Well.. he looks like pretty nice grilled already.. All that is missing is a bit of bacon and a bottle of vodka or beer. lol xD
ReplyDeleteAnd a bit and more seriously.. They should burn them to the ground that same as burned Zuck. He deserved it completely.
Didn't see much squirming. He seemed pretty calm and reserved.
ReplyDeleteStaggering lack of technical knowledge from those congressmen questioning him though.
Michael Warburton - same as with Zuck. Reminded me of the series of little tubes.
ReplyDeleteTrying to explain to a bunch of old dudes something as complex as Google would be like explaining gravity to my beagle. (To be fair, my beagle is a dog . . .)
ReplyDeletePichai: "How can I put this in words that you might understand? Fuck it, I can't even come close. You guys got a coloring book?"
COPPA?
ReplyDeleteThey have certainly abandoned their "don't be evil" mantra.
ReplyDeleteW. Patterson Given the number of, and frequency of abandoning / changing products and/or direction I would say Google is clueless about what Google is. All these old dudes need to grasp is what they, and my dog has: Google's ONLY business is to collect and exploit data; their only product is their users. They also have, like Facebook, unprecedented powers over censorship and (mis)information.
ReplyDeleteMartina Neumayer cooked google is best served with tartar sauce.
ReplyDeleteMichael Warburton Congress never knows how the internet works, the squirming was in another part of the grilling which wasn't in the video.
ReplyDeleteW. Patterson If its that complicated then it needs to be simpler. If they can't explain themselves and how they work, then how can there be proper oversight.
ReplyDeleteJohn Soanes They never had it to begin with. They may as well be doing the Dr. Evil laugh at this point.
ReplyDeleteJohn Soanes Let's also not forget they're looking into a new market, the biggest captive market in the world: China.
ReplyDeleteWilliam Johnston Bllleeehhh.. Hell no! ;)
ReplyDeleteI should not have used the word "complicated," William Johnston. Perhaps a case of explaining something as "technology" to men who grew up in, and understand, analog. Digital is a bit foreign to them.
ReplyDeleteThe basics of Google search, for instance, are simple to explain but probably went right over the Members' heads.
W. Patterson Granted it might, but that only argues all the more reason for proper oversight because Google can get away with anything if they can get away with technobabble as much as they could actual technological explanation.
ReplyDeleteThere's a difference between technobabble when you're speaking to someone who knows of what you speak, William Johnston, and just explaining your product in simple terms - and your audience not understanding even the simple terms.
ReplyDeleteI'm not speaking for or against Google, but appearing before Congress just means that what you say doesn't really matter since a) they're there to hear themselves speak and b) if they DO hear what you say then they don't understand it.
That happens regardless of who it is appearing.
