Don't you just think it's funny Mewe started as Google+ is ending?

Don't you just think it's funny Mewe started as Google+ is ending? I honestly don't know if i trust anything made from Google anymore, alot of things from Google has shut down.

Comments

  1. MeWe was founded in 2012..
Google plus was launched 28th June, 2011..

Mewe only has to last another year to have survived longer than Plus.

  2. FYI in case you are not aware...MeWe is free until images and gifs you post reach 8 gigs of space. Click on the Cloud button at the top of your MeWe account to see the monthly fees. After you reach 8 gigs of space, then you either move to a new social media site, delete content or pay a monthly fee for increased storage. It might take 3 years or so to reach the limit if you don't post any images or gifs, but then what? Who knows what the fees will be then. Also chat is not free past the free trial. MeWe is a Facebook experience with fees. If you are a group admin bringing your members to MeWe you are committing your members to deal with the MeWe fees which are individually assessed.

I have moved to Minds where there are no fees and no space limits. You don't even have to use your real name for an account. No personal data selling. No censorship. You can also share your posts to Twitter or Facebook or copy a url to share on other platforms.

I tried Pluspora but my images and/or gifs were often rejected before posting because they exceeded size limits.

Here is my Minds navigation guide. Your Minds' user experience gets better as you build your network of other Minds users. You can also create a group, open or closed, if you want to post to friends privately.

If you do a search on google for MeWe there's a panel on the right which shows the following information..

    MeWe
    Social networking website
    Founded: 2012
    Website: mewe.com
    Alexa rank: 66,012 (2016)
    Current status: Active
    Owners: Sgrouples Inc.
Created by: Jonathan Wolfe, Mark Weinstein
Available in: English Language, Japanese Language, MORE

So, not sure who is right..
    Google .. you Yougle

And.. you'll note I said "MeWe was "FOUNDED" in 2012..I didn't say it became active, so the idea, concept, whatever,, didn't just start in 2016.

    Wrong? depends what you read.

  4. Kathie Gifford What happens if the owners of minds.com lose interest or go bankrupt? Isn't that the same problem we're having with G+ and MeWe?

No, only a decentralized system can be a solution. And you should not be dependent on a single server, so a nomadic identity is necessary as well.

  5. Haha! I get that why some people thought MeWe was new. It was known as SGrouples back then (I don't exactly know why they changed name) and when G+ closure was announced MeWe founder himself saw an opportunity and chimed in.

Regarding diaspora, I opened an account at joindiaspora back in 2011. Although it was started in 2010, and I requested an invite as soon as it was launched, the invite only arrived in 2011, when G+ was still in beta. Tried it for a while but didn't like that it has no post editing capability, and the devs gave all sorts of user-hostile ridiculous excuses to not implement it. That said I refuse to settle there even if everyone here ended up at pluspora or any other diaspora pod (other than the one I already joined). Whether the pod admins are nice or not won't make any difference to me.

  6. Lordy I trust in the About site of MeWe. Maybe they made a difference between launching and founding. Fact is that MeWe neither was founded nor launched at the time Google announced the shut down of G+.

  7. Never said it was.. I just pointed out that a googly search indicates MeWe was founded within 12 months of Plus..
It has a year to go t last longer than the plus..

  10. It’s always better to do a research first and then post. :)

  11. Kathie Gifford I just signed up for this. What is it? It askedme for my phone number, sent me a code, and then the place where I was supposed to enter the code promptly disappeared. It also appears to be run the same way as Reddit where you have to subscribe to channels. That's honestly not something that appeals to me. I am a generalist and like to read a bit of everything. Also don't like tags. That is so outdated.

I prefer the methodology that algorithms use. They automatically pic up what something is about using the associated words in the piece. The problem with tags is that it is limiting (and a lot of work).

I also don't want to personalize my feed. I prefer to have people that I relate to and I relate to multi-faceted people.

Also, if I'm going to earn, I prefer hard cash. Crypto-currencies, as they are currently on block chain won't work in the long term as they are do energy draining.

Please tell me more about it.
