EDIT: I guess this has something to do with the takedown of the app from App Store recently.
EDIT 2: This is why we need post-editing feature, as I forgot to write about the App Store thing.

From what I understood, not just pornographic content, but any content that they consider only suitable for an adult audience. This includes visible nipples, even though a displayed nipple far from always should be considered adult or even sexual content.
ReplyDelete"Starting December 17, 2018, we will begin enforcing this new policy."
ReplyDeleteInteresting, as I understood it, some long-time members have already had their accounts terminated before this official policy change.
e.g. https://www.deviantart.com/idelacio/art/I-got-banned-on-Tumblr-773454103
deviantart.com - I got banned on Tumblr
According to iVerge:
ReplyDelete"Banned content includes photos, videos, and GIFs of human genitalia, female-presenting nipples, and any media involving sex acts, including illustrations. The exceptions include nude classical statues and political protests that feature nudity. The new guidelines exclude text, so erotica remains permitted. Illustrations and art that feature nudity are still okay — so long as sex acts aren’t depicted — and so are breastfeeding and after-birth photos."
theverge.com - Tumblr will ban all adult content on December 17th
It's an easy change, because they'll probably get few complaints. Bet they won't take similar action against racism, bigotry, and violence, and things of that ilk, though.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile Mastodon instances are welcoming Tumblr users:

Hmm. Turned out someone else have posted this hours before me but I didn't see the post on desktop and didn't receive notification for that post either (FYI I turned on new posts notification for this community). I only saw it in the Android app. I guess the 'algorithm' failed me.

ReplyDeleteIts more than just anti-porn. I think they’ve maybe gone overboard with what they consider “adult” content that should be restricted, but if they also do the anti-hate speech and bullying stuff well it may be worth it for a lot of people.
ReplyDeleteTime will tell.
My sample may be biased based on who I know, but "adult content" may include any LGBTQ content. Creators I know have had content flagged that's not even close to pornographic.
ReplyDeleteEric Tolle I’ve seen old pictures of buildings with hardly discernible people all fully clothed get flagged. It’d be funny if it weren’t tragic.
ReplyDeleteWhelp. Tumblr's dead.
