I do like photos... Which I'm now worried they'll eventually kill also, but picassa was a good desktop program for photos I don't want/need in the cloud
At this point, you have a company that derives 80% of its revenues from one type of product: ads. Problem : it uses bomb carpet strategy but would like to use cruise missiles or drones. The only way is to map the terrain. Thus a lot of resources dedicated to plenty different products, which are basically just a way to better understand us: android, google+, messaging apps, photos, gmail, etc. The day Google will think there is nothing more to milk from photos or gmail, they will shut it down. They are not there for philanthropy but to give shareholders better revenues per share.
Olivier Malinur That may be why Google+ is being cancelled. According to numerous Googlers and ex-Googlers, they never did use info from the Plus to help target ads. So, I assume that no ad sales, no targeting data, no revenue at all means it was just a hobby.

To be honest, Picasa was upgraded to Photos for the better.

ReplyDeleteUnlike Google+, a lot of these were replaced with successor apps, some arguably better (though change always crashes someon's workflow).
