The only time I've seen Google said they did something due to user complaints was when they removed the SMS feature from Hangouts (this was when I had Hangouts as my default SMS app). I still doubt that it was done in response to complaints. They were just giving an excuse to release the Messages app. In other words Google never backtrack on their decision, probably never will.
Daikon DragonRunner User data breach is not the same as user data leak. People that use the term leak for this are ignorant of the difference. A breach is a hole in the protection. That leaves things vulnerable. A leak is when some of that data actually is accessed and taken. Metaphor: I can leave my front door open for hours, but unless someone notices and takes stuff from my house, I can, much later, close/lock the door with no harm and no foul.
Remember too that Google had originally said that G+ was entirely experimental. So it was almost expected to be shut down at some point, or rolled into something better.
