Yes, its free. The "money they will ask for" is for things you would already pay for. Example: Newsweek wants to charge a subscription services on Openbook. You navigate to their page, subscribe and Openbook gets a cut. 2nd Example: You have power steering pump for a 2005 Ford Mustang still in the box. You can sell it on Openbook and you give them a percentage of your sale. In other words, yes, goods and services will cost money (using a new online currency). But everything else is free. Holger Jakobs they are committed to Solid but not in the initial release.
It's too early to even guess whether Open-book will be a success, but it appears they've done some thorough work already and from what I can tell from their manifesto and elsewhere, they are doing almost everything right. I hope they succeed, to the point I pitched in.
Cyrill Kunze They are also on Kickstarter.. also for early access. No matter if you go to Kickstarter or Indiegogo, I'd sign up soon though (which costs money for early access) as they are about to send another round of username reservations sometime in the next two weeks. kickstarter.com - Openbook | Privacy-friendly, fun & honest social network.
Matt Moore Yes, but the Kickstarter campaign is ended. Only on Indiegogo you can support them now for early access. I can't await the christmas update :)

I've heard that they will ask money in the future, so no.

Which Social Network You favour, please ? Anton A
ReplyDeleteCan post there as in Google+, please ? Matt Moore
ReplyDeleteIs it distributed, non-centralized? Or will it die like G+ if the owners lose interest or their business model doesn't work?
ReplyDeleteSeems non-centralized - who knows, even giant Google+ couldn't get/make justice to their investment
ReplyDeleteWhich You prefer Holger Jakobs ?
Matt Moore so it has s terrible business model and will die quickly enough. Check.
ReplyDeleteWhich You prefer, please ? Jasper Janssen
ReplyDeleteIfinder Ifindi I haven’t found one yet that isn’t terrible or unrealistically funded. Diaspora/federated universe is closest.
