You had me at #BLOGGER thanks Friends+Me

There's a new Google+ Exporter release 1.4.0
Embed.ly support for Blogger exports. Link preview that looks really nice.

What's New:
* NEW links attached to Google+ posts are exported for Blogger with embed.ly widget since Blogger does not support link preview natively. Looks really nice.

Is it the typical three only or does it work on Chromebooks?
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing Darin R. McClure :D
ReplyDeleteLink preview? What sort of preview when the link itself is sunsetted?
ReplyDeleteDiana Studer I was talking about link preview of links attached to G+ posts not links to G+ posts ;)
ReplyDeleteFriends+Me Can you point us towards few Wordpress or Blogger blogs that have done this export and import or you've samples that were used for testing. So that, we can see the visual of how our community or collection or G+ profile post will look on blogger or wordpress blog, post using Google+ exporter/importer.
ReplyDeleteAppreciate all your effort in this and regular updates, and would also suggest sharing an image of actual change with each update to make it easier for most users to understand how their posts will look on those two big blogging platforms.
I'd love to see a preview of the blogger import too Friends+Me
ReplyDeleteHere is WP https://googleplusexporter.wordpress.com and Blogger https://google-plus-exporter.blogspot.com site with imported Friends+Me G+ page.
ReplyDeleteFriends+Me thank you
ReplyDeleteFriends+Me Thanks for providing those links. Have few questions, if you can clarify, it will help in finalizing the decision.
ReplyDelete1. You've imported posts from G+ Page to those blogging platforms, will community/collection/profile posts look same when imported?
2. I see that you've added link preview support for Blogger through widget, is it possible to do same for WP or not? If yes, can we expect it in upcoming release?
3. I noticed that only posts that have uploaded image, look same, but posts that had image through link preview, end up losing that image in WP. Is that correct? Can you fix this?
For e.g. recent post of Peggy that you shared doesn't show image on WP from her link, but post of Mike Elgan does, because his original post had uploaded image.
Deepak Ravlani great.
ReplyDelete1. Yes, they will look the same.
2. WP supports embed by default, no embed.ly support is needed.
3. The image is present in export only in case you've attached the image to your G+ posts previously. The application is just exporting the current state of your Google+ feeds.
Friends+Me Thanks again for quick response.
ReplyDelete1. Great.
2. Ok.
3. So, if my posts on G+ have link preview image, and not attached image, after importing posts on WP, they won't show any image, just link. Correct?
Deepak Ravlani correct. We do not plan to add link crawler into the app to crawl the link and figure out what image to attach to the exported blog post. That would complicate things.
ReplyDeleteFriends+Me I understand. In that case, will this workaround work:
ReplyDeleteExport G+ posts > Import in Blogger using Friends+Me (with embedly widget, link previews show up) > Import those Blogger posts through WP importer in WP blog.
Deepak Ravlani yeah, that should work.
ReplyDeleteFriends+Me Great. Will have to try this out on a new wp blog, so I don't end messing up current one. It would have been great, If WP had something like embedly widget.
ReplyDeleteThank you once again for your attention and help. Appreciate it.
Deepak Ravlani you can try yourself and create some test blogs on wordpress.com - WordPress.com: Create a Free Website or Blog and blogger.com
