Would anyone who's done a F+MGE backup since Friday 18 Jan please report whether you have or have not experienced CAPTCHA activity on G+?

Either in the backups or when using G+ afterwards?

This seems to be a new development. And something not experienced previously on G+ itself.

Thanks.

  1. Yes I have experienced it. I did make the mental connection to the exporter. I have not yet tried the experiment of quitting the exporter to see if that makes a difference.

  2. Walter Roberson Is the export itself failing or lagging? Are pages / archives incomplete?

  3. Edward Morbius Looking around the files, I find a database that was updated this morning, and I find that one picture did download (but it looks like it is a profile picture or something like that, not anything from my posts), but I see no evidence that my exports directory has been updated in 1 1/2 days (about 19:40 Central on the 19th).

When I started using the program I exported a couple of specific collections, and then moved on to the Google+ Profile as a whole, which looks like it includes the collections as well. But now when I click to specifically download any collection or to refresh any of the collections, it thinks quite briefly and tells me everything is up to date... which could make sense if it knew it had loaded them in the main download, but I don't see any updates in the main download.

One thing I will add is that my original install was 1.7.1 on Friday, and that I updated to 1.7.2 as soon as I noticed it being available, and that the problem might have started with 1.7.2.

  4. Walter Roberson thanks and when you visit plus.google.com - Discover - Google+ right after the app announces the download is complete, do you see any catcha or warning or the website loads with a problem?

  5. Friends+Me It seems to depend on how long I have been idle. It is not giving me any Captcha right now, but it did just a few minutes ago when I came back to my computer after being away for about an hour-ish.

  6. Walter Roberson and the tool was running during that hour? Or have you run the app before you've left your computer?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Friends+Me It was running. I can't say that I kept mental note of when I quit the tool versus when I got the Captcha. I was leaving it running just to make it faster to launch (that is, not expecting it to be checking with G+ for new content... though I notice that it does seem to check for new images while I leave it running.)

  8. I just refreshed my MGE backup, then started downloading the images and then got a captcha on the g+ website.

  9. I've been getting the CAPTCHA, on G+ only via a web browser for 24 hours now. I immediately started to get the CAPTCHA right after I ran version 1.7.2 for the first time, and refreshed my profile export yesterday morning.

When using Google's Chrome web browser on any device on my network, I get directed to a simple check-box CAPTCHA. Once I check it, I'm taken to G+. When using Firefox, I am presented with a series of images, and I have to click on the images that contain items that the CAPTCHA asks for.

For the last 15 hours the VM that ran my Google+ Exporter instance has been shutdown. I also closed all browser instances with G+ running and cleared out the browsers' caches. The only device for the last 15 hours that could have accessed G+, was the app on my phone.

  10. I have been getting Captcha all the time. I thought the problem was in firebase.
After reading this post I quit from exporter and also stop the tasks

  11. After my last post I quit the application and I stayed out of it and G+ for about 2 1/2 hours. When I went back in a moment ago I was given the captcha. I am using Firefox but I was just given the checkbox not any image test (as yet.) So I suspect there is a timed token that the captcha is good for.

  12. After 27+ hours, I am no longer presented with the CAPTCHA, on any devices on my network, when I visit G+ via a browser.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Friends+Me I also started seeing the "prove you aren't a robot" CAPTCHA in G+ in web on firefox after updating to 1.7.2 and refreshing one community export.

  14. Michael K Johnson I’ll try to limit download speed in the next release, I think it will help to get rid of the captcha.

  15. Friends+Me For me, g+ exporter hung, then wouldn't detect the g+ account on the next restart.

    I'll try again tomorrow.

  16. Friends+Me — Thanks!

Also, and I can't figure out where else to go to ask this: I'm curious whether you got several help requests from me a couple days ago. I didn't get any replies, and now the "Previous messages" option in the Help menu is grey and it's asking for my email again. I'm worried that your help connection provider isn't connecting help requests to you...

I mean, I could ask that in a help request in the app, but that would defeat the point. Sorry to derail the thread!

  17. Michael K Johnson please, send your help request to support @ friendsplus.me and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks!

  18. Friends+Me G+ exporter hung this AM, then wouldn't detect the g+ account on the next restart. It has gone on for over 4 hours now.

  19. Andrew Hatchett I am about to release a new version that will be able to detect such a situation and inform users what to do.
Currently we suggest to try again later and wait for at least 24 hours before next try or to try from a different IP address, that means you should use a VPN or try to use a mobile data or https://www.torproject.org/

Thanks for the quick response - much appreciated!

  22. No issues here. Yesterday I updated to the current F+MGE release, refreshed my previously downloaded collections, exported them to Wordpress and imported into my test blog using the WP option that downloads all the photos from G+ into WP. That worked. However, it was a small batch: total of less than 100 posts, probably 100 or so photos, on a slow internet connection. I doubt I was approaching any limits.

  23. Not sure if this is related, but the new version 1.7.3 constantly shows this error: Unhandled Promise Rejection
SentryError: HTTP Error (429): Creation of this event was denied due to rate limiting
    at new SentryError (/Applications/Google+ Exporter.app/Contents/Resources/app/node_modules/@sentry/core/dist/error.js:9:28)
    at ClientRequest.captureEvent.req.on (/Applications/Google+ Exporter.app/Contents/Resources/app/node_modules/@sentry/electron/dist/main/transports/net.js:44:36)

Just downloaded version 1.7.3 and have the same problem with one exception- even the refresh buttons are greyed out now. :(

  25. Leonard Harris Odd. G+E shouldn't be using the API.

  26. I think that's the error message promised as a feature instead of just hanging with no indication that Google is clamping down that the author promised in the new version, not a bug...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Heh. Going to be interesting to see how this works out, or doesn't. Google Takeout resource management was handled to suit Google. I was wondering how long it would take before Google would notice G+E hammering away and react.

  28. Even with 1.7.4 that is supposed to show the captcha, I'm seeing error window that says:

    Unhandled Promise Rejection
SentryError: HTTP Error (429): Creation of this event was denied due to rate limiting
    at new SentryError (/tmp/.mount_GoogleMXHoTb/resources/app/node_modules/@sentry/core/dist/error.js:9:28)
    at ClientRequest.captureEvent.req.on (/tmp/.mount_GoogleMXHoTb/resources/app/node_modules/@sentry/electron/dist/main/transports/net.js:44:36)
    at URLRequest.constructor.urlRequest.on (/tmp/.mount_GoogleMXHoTb/resources/electron.asar/browser/api/net.js:207:12)

Then I got a captcha request from the web when I showed up to post this.

    Annoying.

Interesting- I haven't seen a captcha in 1.7.4 all day in any of the 13 times I've I've used it.

I will note that I am NOT using the 'FULL JSON EXPORT' but doing each separately in a Blogger Backup format.

  30. The export should not be reaching out to Google's servers at all. That's looking at local data. It's Download or Refresh where you would see an error.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It's still happening with the new version 1.7.4. Unhandled Promise Rejection
SentryError: HTTP Error (429): Creation of this event was denied due to rate limiting
    at new SentryError (/Applications/Google+ Exporter.app/Contents/Resources/app/node_modules/@sentry/core/dist/error.js:9:28)
    at ClientRequest.captureEvent.req.on (/Applications/Google+ Exporter.app/Contents/Resources/app/node_modules/@sentry/electron/dist/main/transports/net.js:44:36)

  32. Quitting the exporter and restarting it when I got that error gave me a pop-up CAPTCHA window. Then it logged me out of G+, I think; at least, exporter wanted me to log in. Then I was left with a blank screen. Restarting, I ended up with the red box suggesting I try again another day.

  33. The 1.7.5 release that just came out appears to be set up to do everything over Tor. It runs much much slower — which here seems to be a good thing. I haven't seen a CAPTCHA yet while archiving over 1400 posts in one community.
