If you have experience with Hubzilla please share your thoughts. I like the fact it interoperates with Diaspora AND Friendica AND Mastodon (or so I hear).

I use ronkjeffries wherever I wander. Twitter is a pretty solid resource for me. Many and diverse users. Damn, I will miss G+. It has class.

  1. Following with interest; I've created a mastodon account @dassinger@mastodon.technical and an additional, ***** and eager to use a method to spray a daily post across several platforms to reach the groups, followers of my pages and groups at each. New in MeWe too... would prefer Google Plus Communities remain available but I'm not the one to make that decision for Alphabet/Google. Don Dassinger central Phoenix Arizona

  2. new friendica release out now and another planned for march with more features... currently supports activity pub connecting to all of the fediverse and federation... hubzilla is similar but not as actively developed atm... also a different use case... try them both!

  3. I installed a Hubzilla instance and I am happy with it. It connects to Diaspora and Friendica just fine; since I have no contacts on Mastodon I cannot evaluate the data interchange with that, but since Mastodon also is a Fediverse-flavour it should work.

There are still some kinks in Hubzilla that need to be worked on, but that has to be expected with a system somewhat new.

In my opinion it is far superior to other Fediverse-flavours because it has way more features (e.g. in Diaspora it is not possible to edit posts, in Hubzilla this is possible).

A serious drawback is that forums on Hubzilla (they are like Communities) do not mitigate to the other flavours. So you cannot be a member of a Hubzilla forum if you are on e.g. Diaspora.

Shelenn Ayres Hubzilla is quite actively developed, there are updates every few weeks and the developers act almost immediately if you report bugs. I reported a bug some time ago and not an hour later there was a patch that came with the next version. The developers actually talk to you if you have problems.

  4. If you're thinking of choosing between Hubzilla, Friendica, and Diaspora*, I recommend that you decide as early as possible, before connecting with too many other people. I joined all three at about the same time, when G+ announced that it was closing down, and connected with over 400 people on Diaspora*. If I were to decide to go full-time with Hubzilla, I'd have to reconnect with all of them one at a a time. It would be nice if all federated sites had an 'import connections en masse' facility.

Hubzilla has a few more features than Friendica. For example, you can build your own website on Hubzilla, and you can set up Pages there (eg for a business or as a fan page) or build your own Wiki. For me, neither look quite as polished as G+, but tinkering with the themes can make quite a difference. Both also feature Privacy Groups, and you have far more control over access (who gets to see your stuff) than on Diaspora*.

  5. stefan holzhauer I didn't say Hubzilla was not actively developed I said "as" in comparison (based on me following dev activity on both). Devs are also primarily the same on both projects - both good projects as is Diaspora.

I also said it is an entirely different use case and this is discussed by the devs of both projects. Friendica happens to be the more mature project since it was first.

Some of Friendica's features won me over because it meets my use case. But using Hubzilla for a mini-blog in the future is likely for me as well. But for a social media solution, I chose Friendica based on how I use it.

  6. Garry Knight Thank you! I'll focus upon Hubzilla, Mastodon, MeWe, and possibly Pinterest (and also continue in LinkedIn) and perhaps not bother pursuing diaspora, or post from Mastodon into diaspora and Hubzilla and Friendster. (But that is a lot of sites to check for any comments, if going in is the way to check for any comments.) So Hubzilla, Mastodon, MeWe, LinkedIn for me mostly, and whatever may remain available in the Google suite as it morphs. At my work and at so many companies and agencies, Google, GSuite, Gmail, and the exiting social and emerging social is being adopted to the certain consternation of M$ft. In Mastodon: @Dassinger@Mastodon.technical and ***** Don Dassinger B.S., C.I.S, central Phoenix Arizona Hey have a great day, all.

  8. Hubzilla has a community feature so that's my new platform of choice.
