(See discussion below.)

There's a new Google+ Exporter release 1.6.0

This release enables you to download images attached to any downloaded post and avatars of comment and post authors, useful in cases you remember just an avatar and not a name.
Here's how to use this new feature https://medium.com/google-plus-exporter/how-to-download-images-7dc321b6f179

Refresh (re-download) of all G+ feeds is highly recommended and necessary in case you'd like to download images for posts already downloaded by previous versions of the application.

Download from https://gplus-exporter.friendsplus.me

* IMPORTANT we recommend to refresh (re-download) all G+ feeds to complete a list of images for download and to make sure no post comments are lost during the feed refresh in case the comment author G+ account is deleted.
* NEW Image downloader
* FIXED Blogger post comments longer than 4000 characters are split into more comments to make sure the Blogger service accepts the import file.
* FIXED all posts may not have been downloaded in some cases, usually when a download of a one or more posts failed.
* FIXED support for photo album posts. Some downloaded photo album posts were missing images.
* FIXED YouTube links with attribution_link are converted to a valid YT URL for WP and Blogger exports.
* FIXED Google+ accounts detection

  1. Google+ APIs begin to shut down at the end of this month.

The developers of this tool say the tool will still work until the end of G+ itself. Relying on this, however, seems risky at best.

On the other hand, new functionality seems to be coming to this tool at an impressive rate.

Where is the sweet spot when we should, in rapid succession, buy a license, export our stuff, post a #signalflare and get outta Dodge?

  3. ❨❨❨David C. Frier❩❩❩ If I understood Friends+Me correctly, the exporter bypasses the API problem by parsing the web view itself, i.e. accessing G+ the same way a web browser does.

  4. Edward Morbius the 1.6.0 version comes with the image download feature that enables you to download images for all fetched G+ posts.

So photo export is already available.

    Quork Q'Tar that's correct.

  5. I hope my Mac is new enough to run this! I’ll have to check tonight. Then,
    0. Make final decision on blog (WordPress or Blogger) and likely social media spots (pluspora, MeWe, Twitter).
    1. Create new blog.
    2. Post signal flare and stop using Google+
    3. Download exporter app
    4. Start multi-day download on slow internet connection.
    5. Start even slower multi day upload to new blog.

  6. The have now reduced the posting limit for the free version to 800 (previously 2000) and scanning the account profile returns Zero postings. It only gives you the results after checking out - and if you hit the 800 Posting limit, you don't even know how many postings there are.

That's severe regression and also a scam-like policy for reducing the number of free postings.

Or does it do any caching/saving outside of ~/.config ?

  7. I'm confused by the wording...
"...and to make sure no post comments are lost during the feed refresh in case the comment author G+ account is deleted."

Whose job is too make sure no comments are lost ? Me (the user) ? Manually ?

"* FIXED all posts may not have been downloaded in some cases, usually when a download of a one or more posts failed."

I'm sorry, what ? The reason some downloads failed is because... some downloads failed ?

  8. This is great, but I'm having the same problem that I have with Google Takeout. How does one match the images up with the relevant post? In the JSON file of posts, in the image field, it has the URL lh3.googleusercontent.com//filename However all of the downloaded images are simply named .jpeg There's a csv file of images to download, but they looked to be named with the URL from the JSON file and have no connection to the download name.

Where do I find the key to connect the posts with the images?

  9. Leonard Harris the CSV file with image list contains image URL and image filename. You should be able to pair it using the image URL.

  10. Leonard Harris The photo filename is the MD5 hash of the long lh3... URL. Which is kinda genius if you're matching them up with a custom script. But if you're doing it manually, it sucks to be you.

  11. Is there a way to download only my shares in a community ?

  12. Sara d sure, you can pick Google+ feed to download.

  13. Friends+Me Oh, Thank you so much

  14. Friends+Me Thanks. However most of the entries in my google-plus-image-list.csv has entries like: "https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/AAuE7mCsl56jFcnGrJEGS6Ly8buzA-JLf4Eo0_3t-snYAw=s0";"no";"";"";"31750". Out of 400 entries, there are fewer than 10 with the downloaded filename. However since ❨❨❨David C. Frier❩❩❩ pointed out it is the MD5 of the URL, I can figure it out.

  15. Leonard Harris you have to click the Download Images button to download images and then export the image list.

  16. Friends+Me Thanks! re-exporting the image list seems to have done it. When I get home tonight I'll have buy the full version so I can download everything.

  17. Friends+Me just want to say thanks. I got all 4601 posts and 1923 images. It is fairly easy to reconstruct everything. Now if only something similar existed for that other social network (FB).
