A Google Photos Product expert has found text on the intermediate dialogs you get when you delete a Google Plus profile.
Photos and videos from your posts will continue to appear in your album archive, but will be deleted from your album archive as part of the Google+ consumer shutdown. Photos and videos in comments, and cover photos for collections, will be deleted.
This strongly suggests what you would expect. Which is that the album and it's contents called "G+ Photos From Posts" in the album archive will be deleted at the G+Sunset. This is the first official comment we've found about what happens to images uploaded while creating a post or comment in G+ but not first uploaded to Photos. They're going to be deleted and disappear for ever.
It makes it really important that G+ users know this and take action to save their images that are only uploaded to posts & comments, if they want to keep them and don't have any other copy.

Hmm, that's a shame. Dealing with images is a pain, as they are resource heavy and typically require special handling for any destination platform - if they are natively supported at all beyond a URL link. For example the blogger API does not seem to have support for uploading images.
ReplyDeleteWhat do we do if we don't have an album called "G+ Photos From Posts"
ReplyDeleteI am somewhat confused by some of these terms. I may be unusual in that I WANT my posted photos to be deleted when Google+ closes: will they be deleted?
ReplyDeleteRoy Gardiner We don't know because Google hasn't told us. But it does seem likely. And to repeat, this is about photos that are uploaded to G+ in the process of creating a post or comment. That's uploading at that time, not choosing from the list of photos.
ReplyDeleteI try and be accurate and complete in my descriptions. If there's something specific that doesn't make sense, just ask.
Leonard Harris - it's not in photos, but some separate location like "get.google.com/albumarchive/" - do you not have an album called "G+ Photos From Posts" there? Have you ever attached an uploaded photo to a post?
ReplyDeleteBernhard Suter I don't know how to find this. I'm sure it's linked from somewhere in Google accounts. But when we talk about Album Archive, this is what we mean.

"G+ Photos from Posts" is in there.
Julian Bond Many thanks! And I certainly intended no criticism :-).
ReplyDeleteBernhard Suter Julian Bond Thanks I've never seen that list of albums before. I only go in though photos. Learn something new every day :)
